Oscar A. Engen
Funeral services were held for
Oscar Adolph Engen Saturday,
September 12, at Oylen Alliance
Church with Rev. Robert T.
Wilman, pastor, officiating. He
was 78.

Interment was in the West
Lyons township cemetery west of
Oylen, Howard Folkestad
Funeral Home was in charge of
arrangements.

He was born to parents Christ
and Irabell Engen at Soldier,
Iowa, June 24, 1892, and passed
away, September 8, 1970 at Shady
Lane Nursing Home. He was a
WW1 veteran and had worked in 
sawmills. Mr. Engen never
married.

Surviving is one sister, Ida
Engen, who is a resident of Shady 
Lane.

Obituary - Kern




Clara Kern

Funeral services were con-
ducted Wednesday at 10:30 a.m.
from Blue Grass St. Hubert
Catholic church for one of  Leaf
River Township and Wadena
county's earlier pioneers.

Clara Kern, 84, passed away of 
an apparent heart attack Sunday,
March 21, 1971.

She was born to parents Anton
and Kathryn Kern in Leaf River
township March 9, 1887 and at-
tended Wadena County Schools.
She, along with her pioneer
family were instrumental in the
establishment of the St. Hubert
Catholic church parish which has
prospered and grown.

Miss Kern was a faithful
member of St. Hubert's of
Bluegrass and was active in the
church until her death.

Left to mourn her passing are
five brothers Adam, Frank,
Peter and Simon all of rural
Sebeka; Anton of Wadena;
sisters, Mary Kern and Mrs.
Kathryn Lorentz of Staples;
Sister Ermalinda and Sister
Antona of Elm Grove, Wisconsin;
Sister Herman Joseph, Waseca,
Minn,; and Mrs. Frank (Agatha)
Kempf of rural Wadena.

Father William Koska of-
ficiated at the final rites and 
internment was in St. Hubert's
Catholic cemetery near
Bluegrass. Arrangements were
by Messer-Johnson Memorial
Home.
